The importance of accountability

Management systems are important in that they create accountability. Process owners are responsible for managing their own areas. Tasks are generated and they need to be actioned. One thing is certain, if the process of accountability is not part of the manageemt system, then nothing will get done. I came across this story a few years ago and I thought it was worth sharing:

The story about 4 people- Everybody, Somebody, Anybody & Nobody

There was an important job to be done. Everybody was asked to do it. Anybody could have done it but Nobody did. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it. In the end Everybody blamed Somebody. Actually Nobody blamed Anybody but Everybody knew that Somebody was to blame.

That is why Objectives and Plans form a fundamental part fo the continual improvement process in any organisation. It is also why the Corrective and Preventive Action process is also incomplete without full accountability being doucmented.
